What Does “Plastic” Have To Do With A Bellevue Chiropractor?

Each and every day our bodies are having to endure amazing amounts of stress. While enduring this stress your body is also adapting to it. This process is called plasticity. With out plasticity we would probably all be dead because our body’s would not be able to handle all of the extra stressors. Plasticity is just what it sounds like, its the plastic nature of our bodies to mold themselves to the environmental stimuli. An example of this is a woman who wears high heels her whole life. Eventually her low back must mold to the stress of the heel and she will most likely develop low back pain. This is a phenomenon that I see every single day in my practice.

Plastic changes by no means happen over night unless a significant stress dictates it, like a whiplash injury in a car accident. Many times in my patients this adaptation has slowly occurred over decades. The spine and its associated structures are a major place for this to occur. I have a saying in my office, “Where you keep the body the most is where its going to stay”. If you keep the spine in a poor posture for years, odds are its going to get stuck there. This can turn into headaches, stiff neck, jaw pain, low back and many other conditions which plague us as humans today. On the opposite end of things, plasticity can also be a good thing! As a chiropractor I am daily using plasticity to mold the spine back to where it is supposed to be, thus changing how the body sees stress.

The important thing to look at is if plasticity has taken place in your body. Odds are, if you work in Bellevue at a computer you have developed what I call Bellevue Neck. If you have neck pain or stiffness by the end of the day, or have chronic headaches you have developed plasticity in your system and need to find a Bellevue chiropractor. A chiropractor can help to reverse the damage that has taken place and help to regain the normal positioning of your body.

Another sure sign that plasticity has taken place in your body is if you have ever been in a car accident. Car crashes are huge stressors to your system and can speed to process of plasticity taking place. If you have been in a car accident any time in your life please call a chiropractor today.

If left untreated plastic changes can create massive degenerative changes in your spine. I see this take place every singe day in my office. Call my office today to discuss if you are a candidate for chiropractic care.
