Techniques To Propel Your Social Network Status

In this video, TuxedoJericho asks how to best propel your status on Social Networks. While there is no silver bullet to make this happen, here are three techniques to increase your clout: 1. Participate 2. Passion 3. Courtesy. These three traits will most likely increase your recognition in your favorite social network, but are not guaranteed to work. I do these things but I also exhibit my personality which some people like and some people don’t. This is a hard question to answer and ultimately, it depends on many factors. I will say, you employ the three things I mention in this video, it definitely can not hurt your situation. Hope this answered your question.

Online Social Networking Revolution: Thinking Ahead

website blog:

http://www.jrsnyderjr.com

Online social networking communities have developed into their own social networking communities bonded online much like they are offline, beyond what the corporations who purchased the technology conceived of. A corporation’s intention is to make money but a whole new phenomenon has developed that is the germ of a social revolution. Corporations provide only the technical platform (at colocation centers) and should make reasonable money off these networks, but if the participants in these sites want some control of decisions about how these communities operate on these corporations platforms, they need to understand the nature of corporations. We will see communities develop on sites such as YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and some not yet known, and that these communities can relocate across platforms.

Twitter Visualization showing that social network data, people, flu etc can be tracked from posts

Video courtesy of blprnt at Vimeo

http://vimeo.com/user313340

The visualization uses Twitter searches for phrases like “just landed in” “arrived at” to create a “real time” trend of movement based on social networking information. Possible uses included tracking flu outbreaks like searching for tweet related to H1N1 and then visually graphing them.

Here’s what he says:

“I was discussing H1N1 with a bioinformatics friend of mine last weekend, and we ended up talking about ways that epidemiologists model transmission of disease. I wondered how some of the information that is shared voluntarily on Social Networks might be used to build useful models of various kinds.

I’m also interested in visualizing information that isn’t implicitly shared – but instead is inferred or suggested.

This piece looks for tweets containing the phrases ‘just landed in…’ or ‘just arrived in…’. Locations from these tweets are located using MetaCarta’s Location Finder API. The home location for the traveling users are scraped from their Twitter pages. The system then plots these voyages over time.

I’m not entirely sure where this will end up going, but I am reasonably happy with the results so far.
